Key Findings
- 65% of Internet users aged 9 to 17 used generative AI for at least one of the surveyed purposes in 2025: 42% of 9 to 10 year olds, 62% of 11 to 12 year olds, and about three-quarters of 13 to 14 and 15 to 17 year olds.
- 59% used generative AI for school research or study, 42% to search for information and 21% to create text, images, video or code.
- 10% of users aged 9 to 17 used generative AI to talk about personal problems or their emotions, rising with age: 4% at 9 to 10, 7% at 11 to 12, 12% at 13 to 14 and 16% at 15 to 17.
- The report frames conversational generative AI as a source of socio-emotional support for some children and names risks of inaccurate or confirmation-biased answers and privacy exposure, citing the APA 2025 adolescent advisory and Internet Matters.
- 92% of Brazilians aged 9 to 17 were Internet users in 2025; 98% watched videos online and 70% played games online.
Methodology Notes
Probability sample of 2,370 children aged 9 to 17 and 2,370 parents or guardians, face-to-face household interviews across Brazil, March to August 2025, stratified multi-stage design (details in the methodology chapter). Portuguese e-book (148 pages) published 17 March 2026 on the Cetic.br publication page; English edition posted 11 May 2026 (PDF created 17 April 2026). Generative-AI use items were asked for the first time in this edition, so no trend is available.
