Americans Turning to AI to Supplement Healthcare Visits

Key Findings

• — 25% of US adults have used an AI tool or chatbot for health information or advice, mainly as a supplement to care; about 70% have used an AI tool for any purpose.
• — Among past-30-day users, 59% research on their own before visiting a doctor and 56% after; 14% used AI because they could not pay for a visit, 16% because they could not access a provider, and 21% because they had felt dismissed or ignored by a provider.
• — 14% of recent users say AI information or advice led them to skip a provider visit in the past 30 days, which Gallup projects to an estimated 14 million US adults.
• — Trust among recent users splits roughly in thirds (trust 33%, neutral 33%, distrust 34%); only 4% strongly trust the accuracy of AI-generated health information.
