Mapování rizikového chování a duševního zdraví žáků v Praze za školní roky 2016/2017–2025/2026

The tenth wave of Prague's municipal school survey of risk behaviour and mental health, fielded in class by online questionnaire to 13,284 lower-secondary and secondary pupils between 5 November and 8 December 2025 (10,917 after cleaning). New in this wave is a section on artificial intelligence: about a quarter of pupils use AI tools daily and more than a third several times a week, and 24% report that when they were really struggling psychologically they turned to AI first rather than to a person at least once, with girls reporting this more often than boys. The report treats this AI-first-in-distress pattern as a marker for a group at higher risk.

Key Findings

  • 10,917 pupils were analysed (13,284 raw responses, 2,367 excluded); 24.8% use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini every day and 35.5% several times a week, with daily use rising from about 17% at ages 10 to 14 to nearly 29% at 15 to 17 and over 30% among the oldest.
  • Asked whether 'in a situation when I was really struggling psychologically I turned to AI first, not to a person', 75.7% said never, 16.5% once or twice, 5.7% repeatedly (several times a year) and 2.1% regularly (almost every week or day).
  • Girls reported the AI-first pattern more often than boys (30.1% at least once against 19.2%), and repeated or regular use in such situations was also more common among girls (7.2% and 3.3% against 4.4% and 1.1%).
  • Age differences on the AI-first item were small; the authors read it as a characteristic of a subgroup rather than an age-driven phenomenon, and use it to identify pupils whose AI use may be linked to higher burden or a specific coping style.
  • 54.3% of pupils said they would rather be afraid to confide in a teacher if they had a serious problem.
  • The AI chapter also flags a risk group showing weakened autonomy (lower trust in their own decisions, AI as first choice for solving problems, discomfort deciding without it).

Methodology Notes

Repeated cross-sectional school survey run since 2016/17 by the Prague Centre for Primary Prevention (Centrum sociálních služeb Praha); 2025/26 wave by computer-assisted web interview during lessons, 5 November to 8 December 2025, 13,284 raw and 10,917 cleaned respondents across Prague primary, secondary and grammar schools. The 184-page Czech PDF is hosted on the centre's Wix site; a press conference presented the results on 2026-09-03 and the exact release day of the PDF is not printed in it, so the press-conference date is used. The curator read the AI chapter (Czech) directly. Self-report; Prague only.
