What Kids and Families Think About AI Across the EU

Four-country counterpart to the US 'Generation AI' survey among parents and teens aged 12 to 17 in Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain, fielded online by YouGov from 2 to 8 April 2026. Covers frequency and purpose of teen AI use, parents' perceptions of that use, familiarity with safety features, confidence in AI companies and support for regulation, with country profiles. Key Findings

  • 38% of teens use AI every day or most days versus 23% of parents; teen use is led by information search (56%) and schoolwork (48%)
  • Parents overestimate emotional uses: 33% believe personal advice is a main teen use (18% of teens report it) and 20% believe companionship is (5% report it)
  • 8% of parents and 27% of teens are confident that AI companies prioritise safety; 77% of parents support strong laws and over 80% back labelling and accountability measures
  • Country profiles report differences in weekly use and in the parent-teen concern gap across the four countries

Parent survey N=557 (Poland 135, Netherlands 135, Spain 147, Denmark 140), online, 2 to 8 April 2026, fieldwork by YouGov, approximate 95% uncertainty interval plus or minus 4.2 percentage points; the report states results are not a population-weighted estimate of Europe as a whole. Teen survey N=539 aged 12 to 17, recruited through their parents. Publication date is the research page date (May 11, 2026).
